Christmas Gift Guide – for her or him.

It’s the most wonderful time of the yeaaaaaarrrrr. Christmas is coming and here are a few ideas for gifts for your loved ones.

1.            Bath bombs

A great stocking filler. They’re inexpensive and they look great. A personal favourite of mine is Fizzbanger from Lush.  Lush is great, because they have so many varieties of bath bombs and they aren’t  harsh on the skin! So for the friend who love soaking in the tub, this is the perfect gift!

2.            Nail Art Acessories / Guidebook

For your NOTD (Nail Of The Day) Instagrammers this present is perfect.  Who doesn’t love nail art and for the girl who loves D.I.Y beauty a present like this is thoughtful! I got The Wah Nails Book of Downton Girls as a present myself and I love it. It has great ideas and shows you how to do it! Most look more complicated then they are! If you are looking to add onto this present you could buy a few accessories to go with the book. Penneys (Primark) have nail tools and stickers!

You can get The WAH Nails Book Of Downtown Girls in Easons for 17.25

3.          Glossybox Membership

This is one of my favourites. I got a three month membership for my birthday! Basically you fill out a questionnaire answering for your friend and then they send a box full of beauty products and samples. You can pick how long the membership lasts! Prices vary depending on the length of the membership! It’s a great gift because you discover new brands and products!

4.    Yankee Candle

I don’t know about you but I love a good candle! Candles are a great present for any age group because who doesn’t want their bedroom or house smelling good! A personal favourite of mine is Black Cherry and my uncle  loves midsummers night dream for men because it smells like aftershave! Around this time of the year Christmas Cookie goes down a treat! You can find these candles all online or pop into the Yankee Candle Shop itself, you don’t need an excuse to go in and smell all the amazing candles!

5.   The Cookbook

For the foodie friend or even the friend who needs to learn. Asos has been bang on with Christmas presents this year and I found this little gem, The Hungry Student Cookbook. Not only is it practical but it’s humorous. I really liked it because it’s not your average cookbook it has great tips for students and it’s more personal because,  it relates to the person receiving it. Asos is great right now because they are reducing prices as Christmas nears but don’t leave it too long or it will sell out.

You can find this book at Asos  – The Hungry Student Cookbook.
Another option – The Hungover Cookbook

6.  The Hamper

What better way to show your friend that you know her, then to buy all her favourite things. I love this because you can personalise your gifts and stick a few inside jokes in there too. Pictures, momentos not to mention funny stories that you share on little cards are great. For my friends birthday I included her favourite colour nail polish and her favourite drink. The more personal the better because it shows that you care!

7.  A Watch

For the friend who is always running a little late. A watch is always a great present because the price range is pretty wide. You can always get nice watches, whether your budget is unlimited or restricted. The Watch shop and Asos.com have a great online selection at the moment. I love this Asos Sekonda Watch it’s stylish and timeless.

8. The Mixtape

Or in our case the MixCD, it doesn’t have the same ring to it does it. A great personal gift, we all have songs that are personal to you and a friend. What better way to put them all on one CD! It’s a great idea for your friend who has a car, road trips seem more bearable with music.

9.  Headphones

I constantly lose my earphones. Headphones are a little harder to lose maybe because they’re a little bigger to lose. As a media student good headphones are a necessity for editing and for the music lover a gift sent from heaven. Good quality headphones are brilliant because sound quality improves and headphones are better for your ears. Think of it this way you’re protecting their ears. HMV and Harvey Norman have a good selection of Headphones.

10. Concert / Comedian Tickets

One Direction Concert 2014

With a little planning you could give your friend a night with there favourite popstar, ok there’s a good chance that 5,000 other fans might be there but you can see the sentiment. Whether it’s Taylor Swift in the 3 Arena or your friend’s favourite local group in the Róisín Dubh. Tickets for a musician or comedian are a great way for both of you to enjoy a present. You both get to spend a night together laughing or dancing and hey, any excuse for a night out!

Remember, don’t forget to use those student cards and unidays.com!
Until next time a cairde,

What’s in my Makeup Bag?

The makeup bag. A girl’s bag full of tricks aka my best friend. So, I’ve decided to dedicate a post to my trusty little friend.

Thanks to my little sister for the lovely bag !

  1. Naked Basics – Urban Decay
One of the best palette’s Urban has. Basically all of your neutral eyeshadows in the one place and if you are a fan of the naked palette’s like myself,  you’ll be happy not to have to lug your full palette about.

You can find it in any Debenhams shop or online Naked Basics – Debenhams

2.  Brow zing – Benefit

My go to eyebrow kit, because of it’s size it’s really good for your average makeup bag. I use the shade medium, the kit consists of a wax and powder. It also comes with a tweezers and two small brushes. I’m running very low at the moment so I only have the powder left, but I’m really impressed with how long it has lasted. Definitely worth your money. You can find this product in any benefit stand, I got mine in Debenhams or online.

Brow Zing – Debenhams

3. Naked Skin – Urban Decay

The bottle promises weightless ultra definition liquid makeup and it delivers. I loved this foundation during the summer because it felt like I had nothing on my face when it was a hot day.

It is very light so if you’re looking for a full cover foundation look elsewhere. I like to mix it with my everyday foundation for a more full coverage look.

4. Skin Matching Luminizer Foundation – NYC

Nothing really special about this foundation, it’s your everyday foundation. I usually mix it with naked skin and then I’m happy with the result. I bought it on a whim in Penney’s and I can’t remember how much it was exactly but I think it was around the four or five euro mark!

5. Revlon Photoready Primer

I read a lot  of reviews about this primer but I’m not blown away. I’ve nearly finished the bottle and I don’t think I will buy it when it finishes. It’s hard to pump out onto the skin and you cannot unscrew the top which makes it very hard to get the product out.  I have dry skin which normally means with a good primer my makeup will stay intact for a good few hours but with this my makeup doesn’t last as long!

Available in boots for 17.99 or online

6. Skin Fresh Concealer – W7

I usually use this when wearing a darker foundation. It gives really good coverage especially those dark circles. I didn’t spend much on it and overall I’m happy with it! Available in Cara Pharmacy!

7.  Glowstick – Topshop

I cannot rave about this highlighter more, I bought it while holidaying in Liverpool. Such a lovely highlighter, it instantly makes your skin brighter! I use it everyday, the only bad thing I have to say it that it is a little bit tough to blend so make sure you blend it well or it’ll look like a big white line on your cheek. Major love for this product!

Available in Topshop

8.  MAC Powder Blush – Well Dressed

What can you not love about MAC blushes. They last FOREVER, pretty sure I have this two years  and I love it. The colour is pigmented and even though I use this pretty regularly there is no dent visible!
Available in any Brown Thomas Store!
MAC Blush – BT

9. MAC Pressed Powder

I’m nearly out 🙁 Another one for the Christmas list. It’s a great powder and it sets your foundation and concealer! So happy I invested in it because it lasted so long! Not too heavy but it does a great job setting!

Avalible in Brown Thomas
MAC Powder – BT

10.  Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Urban Decay

Hands down the best eyeshadow primer ever. My eyeshadow or eyeliner never moves when I put this on. You only need a little bit so it lasts a long time and a really good investment.

Primer – Debenhams

11. Supreme Shine Lipstick in Rich – Seventeen

My Favourite lippy for winter. You can’t go wrong with the burgundy colour especially this time of the year!
Such a bargain only 6.29 you can’t go wrong!

Pale vs Tanned.

Milk bottle, was one of many nicknames I’ve had over the years while growing up. I’m your typical Irish stereotype, pale and freckly. Over the years, I’ve had moments where I’ve embraced the pale look and I’ve had moments where I dreamed of becoming a tanned Greek goddess. So, I hit the shops looking for the perfect tan in a bottle.

I’ve always been apprehensive when applying tan. Tan and I have a love/hate relationship because I always associate it to the days when I was thirteen and applied it to my legs only. Memories of orange legs and a white *shivers* face, still haunt me to this day. So I decided to forgo the tan for a couple of years and decided pale was less hassle, but as the summer months of 2014 approached, I longed for the Greek goddess glow.

Investing a little of my spare time, I researched the best tan for the pale gals, asked my friends and even reading a few blogs on how to prepare the skin and make the tan look as natural as possible.

These are the products worked for me :

1. Rimmel Instant Tan

I’m not a major fan of developing tans, you can’t really trust what colour is actually going to come up and not only that I’m not keen on walking around for awhile trying not to touch anything (girl problems).  With me convenience is key so instant tan works well for moi. I like Rimmel’s Instant tan for two reasons

  1.  It’s easy to apply.
  2. It doesn’t cost me and arm and a leg

I like to think when it come’s to skincare products that you should buy the best product for your skin not the cheapest but it’s always a plus when you don’t break the bank 🙂 I usually pick this product up in Penney’s (Primark) or you’ll most likely find it in your local chemist.

It retails for about €6/7 depending on where you go!

2. Vichy Dermablend

Not exactly a tan but a great cover up but it works really well with tan especially when covering up scars, acne and stretch marks. I really really liked this during the summer because even when I wasn’t using it on my body I could use it on my face. I wouldn’t use it everyday as it is a pretty full coverage more of  a night time foundation . It’s quite drying on the skin too so don’t forget to moisturise and exfoliate!

You can find this product in Boots for €22.99

Vichy-DERMABLEND-Corrective-Foundation

As I venture into the Winter months I haven’t really decided who will win the war, all I know is that I like my skin both ways and you should like your skin both ways too.
Until next time a chairde,
grá mór,

Guinness, myth or miracle?

After researching hair remedies online (my hair was feeling a bit dry) I came across an old hair “myth” of sorts, Guinness. Legend has it that Guinness, yes the beer, is good for your mop.
Guinness has barley in it which makes the hair softer and gives your hair a healthier appearance. So hesitantly, I tried it, hey if it’s good enough for Naomi Campbell it’s good enough for me! Robbing a can from my dad’s stash (thanks Richie) I embarked on my hair therapy.
What I’ve learnt :
  1. Make sure the  Guinness is room temperature because otherwise the black stuff is FREEZING in the shower .
  2. You want to leave the Guinness in your hair as long as possible so exfoliate, shave or daydream!
  3. I left the Guinness in my hair for about 5-7mins.
  4. Optional but I used conditioner after washing the Guinness out of my hair because the texture of my hair was quite rough.
Results :
My hair did seem softer when I had finished blowdrying it but overall I was disappointed. So my quest for homemade hair treatments goes on but hey Guinness has it’s other uses!
Until next time,
Cait xoxo

Etsy – The Online Shopping Haven.

I came across Etsy a few months back, when I was looking around for cheaper flower crowns then those that were on offer on the High Street. The bargain hunter I am, I came across an online community which allows artist and entrepreneurs to showcase their products. I am in love. This website is amazing they have everything from home ware to clothing.and have something for everyone at different prices.Handmade items and vintage pieces galore, you won’t be disappointed.

There are hundreds of items and stores. What I like even more about Etsy is,
it’s online shopping but so much more personal.  You may not be physically in the shop, but the fact you have direct contact with the owner makes the shopping experience that little bit better.Any worries you have regarding your order can be reassured with a quick reply if you are lucky!

So if you’re sick of the mainstream online shopping website give Etsy a try, you never know what quirky pieces you might pick up!

In the end I picked up a red rose flower crown that I had a hand in creating!
